Third year Programs -
Health Care of the Elderly

The Program
The Faculty of Medicine, Dalhousie University, sponsored by The Department of Family Medicine and the Division of Geriatric Medicine, offers a Certificate program in Health Care of the Elderly. This program has been accredited by the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) and is certified for family physicians to enhance their skills in the care of the frail elderly.

A Certificate in Health Care of the Elderly can be done over a period of 6 or 12 months, therefore, there is a great deal of flexibility for incorporating training with other interests or commitments.

Objectives
The training responds to the need for specifically trained physicians in addition to specialist geriatricians, in the care of the frail elderly. It is in addition to the regular residency training in family medicine. It is directed to those physicians in practice or immediately post family medicine residency training whose activities may include: a) primary care geriatric practice, b) functioning as a resource person in the community in rural or urban settings, c) program development, d) an academic career in health care of the elderly.

Applications
Postgraduate funding is available for accepted PGY3 applicants; as well there may be bursary opportunities for accepted community physician(s).

Position start dates are flexible therefore interested physicians should submit a personal letter of intent and interest, curriculum vitae and names of three references as early as possible to:
